About OpenVAS Scanner
OpenVAS Scanner is the full-featured scan engine of the Greenbone Community Edition. It executes vulnerability tests to find security weaknesses across IT environments and powers the Greenbone Enterprise appliances.
Scans run against a continuously updated and extended feed of Vulnerability Tests (VTs), so coverage keeps pace with newly disclosed issues. The engine integrates with the wider Greenbone stack, taking scan instructions and returning results to the management layer.
You can build and install it from source with cmake, or run the official Docker images for a quicker setup, including a fully containerized Community Edition. A newer Rust implementation aims to simplify and centralize the scanner stack.
