About Luanti

Luanti, formerly Minetest, is a free, open source voxel game engine in the spirit of Minecraft. Rather than shipping a single fixed game, it is a platform on which whole games are built from blocks, scripted in Lua and packaged for players to download and play.

Easy modding sits at the core: games and mods are written in Lua and loaded as self-contained packages, so players can mix and remix content and creators can publish their own worlds. Worlds are stored as separate folders that can be backed up or moved between installations.

Luanti runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and a dedicated server can be hosted directly or via Docker for online multiplayer. The project carries on under the Luanti name after its 2024 rename from Minetest.
