About Cap
Cap is an open source alternative to Loom for teams that want to own their screen recording workflow. It records screen, camera, and microphone, then lets you share a link, export a finished video, or keep recordings local.
It offers Instant Mode for uploading while you record and Studio Mode for local editing with backgrounds, zooms, trimming, captions, and export controls. Cap also adds comments, reactions, transcripts, viewer analytics, team workspaces, custom domains, custom S3 storage, passwords, and Cap AI for titles, summaries, chapters, captions, and transcripts.
Cap runs on macOS and Windows, with a web dashboard for viewing, sharing, and managing recordings. It can use Cap Cloud, your own S3-compatible storage, or full self-hosting with Docker Compose. The code is split across Rust, TypeScript, and Tauri, and the project is licensed under MIT for the cap-camera and scap crates and AGPLv3 for other content.
