About Backdrop CMS
Backdrop CMS is a content management system for non-technical users who need to manage a wide variety of content. It can be used to create blogs, image galleries, social networks, intranets, and other websites. It aims to work out of the box while staying easy to learn.
It runs on PHP 7.1.0 or higher with MySQL 5.5.0 or higher and PDO enabled, on Apache or Nginx. Installation starts by pointing a browser at the site and following the installer. The codebase also provides extensible APIs for developers.
Backdrop is a fork of Drupal and is licensed under GPL v2 or higher. It keeps a configuration-driven approach where site settings are stored as files that can be moved between environments, and it ships with layout and block tools for arranging pages. Self-hosting is the normal deployment model, with the application running on your own PHP and database stack.
