About Sakai
Sakai is an open source learning management system for learning, teaching, research, and collaboration. Built by higher education for higher education, it gives universities and similar institutions a web-based platform their instructors and students reach through a single portal.
Sakai bundles a set of integrated tools for coursework and group collaboration, with CKEditor as the rich text editor used throughout for authoring content. An Accessibility Working Group maintains the framework and its tools toward WCAG and VPAT conformance, and the project ships complete or near-complete translations in 18 languages, from Spanish and German to Arabic and Chinese.
Sakai is a project of the Apereo Foundation and is licensed under the Educational Community License 2.0. It is written in Java and deployed to Apache Tomcat, with the source built using Maven. Several release lines are supported by the community at once, while older releases continue to receive security fixes.
