About Papermerge
Papermerge is an open-source document management system for scanned documents and digital archives. It extracts text from PDF, TIFF, JPEG, and PNG files with OCR, indexes that text, and makes documents searchable for long-term storage and organization.
The web UI has the look and feel of a desktop file browser: a dual-panel view, drag and drop, nesting tags, and hierarchical folders. Documents support versioning, document types, and custom metadata fields. Page management covers delete, reorder, cut, move, and extract, and you can download a document with its OCR text overlay. Multi-user access adds group ownership and sharing between users and groups.
Papermerge exposes an OpenAPI-compliant REST API, and the interface is available in multiple languages. It runs on Python and PostgreSQL, deploys with Docker, and ships under the Apache 2.0 license.
