About OpenMediaVault
OpenMediaVault is a network attached storage solution built on Debian Linux. It puts storage administration behind a web interface aimed at home environments and small home offices, so common NAS services can be set up and run without deep Linux knowledge.
It bundles services such as SSH, SFTP, SMB/CIFS, AFS, rsync, a UPnP media server, a DAAP media server, and a BitTorrent client. A modular framework underneath lets the system be extended with plugins for extra services and features.
Like other NAS distributions, it expects full, exclusive control over the operating system: it runs as the main OS on its machine, cannot run inside a container, and cannot share the box with a graphical desktop.
