About Lemmy

Lemmy is a link aggregator and forum for the fediverse. Users subscribe to communities, post links or discussions, vote, and comment, similar to Reddit, Lobste.rs, or Hacker News. A user on one server can subscribe to communities on another server and discuss with users registered elsewhere.

Each server is federated and can set its own moderation policy. Lemmy includes site-wide admins, community moderators, public moderation logs, sticky posts, post and comment locking, removal and restore actions, community and site bans, private messages, notifications, RSS and Atom feeds, cross-posting, and similar-post search.

A clean, mobile-friendly interface adds live-updating comment threads, full vote scores, user and community tagging, integrated image uploads, NSFW support, and notifications by email or private message. The Rust server is fast and easy to self-host with Docker or Ansible, and runs on arm64 hardware down to a Raspberry Pi.

Key features

  • Federated communities across independently run servers
  • Posts can include self text, a URL, both, or only a title
  • Voting, comments, private messages, notifications, and tagging
  • Public moderation logs, sticky posts, locks, removals, and bans
  • RSS and Atom feeds for All, Subscribed, Inbox, User, and Community
