About Garage

Garage is an S3-compatible distributed object store built for self-hosting at small-to-medium scale. Its S3-compatible API lets existing S3 tools and clients read and write objects against it.

Garage is designed for clusters whose nodes sit in different physical locations. It replicates data across those sites and stays available when some servers are unreachable, while staying lightweight and resilient to machine failures.

Garage is built by Deuxfleurs, a small-scale self-hosted service provider that has run it in production since 2020. It is free software released under the AGPLv3.

Key features

  • S3-compatible distributed object storage
  • Replicates data across nodes in different locations
