About FreeMED
FreeMED is an electronic medical record and practice management system for handling clinical records and billing workflows. It is used by medical practices that need to manage patient information, encounters, and practice operations in one system, and has been developed since 1999.
The application is written in PHP and requires PHP 8.3, with a reference deployment on Debian. Installation runs on Apache and MySQL, placing the application under /usr/share/freemed and serving it through an Apache virtual directory alias. A companion project, REMITT, handles billing and remittance.
FreeMED is maintained by the FreeMED Software Foundation, a non-profit, and released under the GNU GPL. It is self-hosted on infrastructure you manage rather than offered as a hosted service.
