About diaspora*

diaspora* is a privacy-aware, distributed, open source social network. You can join an existing server or install your own pod, so your social data stays on infrastructure you control instead of a single hosted service.

People post, share, and connect across a federated network of pods that talk to one another, so an account on any one pod can interact with the whole network. There is no central company that owns the data or the platform.

You can sign up on one of the many open servers without hosting anything yourself, or follow the installation guides to run your own pod. diaspora* is built in Ruby and stewarded by the diaspora* Foundation.

Key features

  • Distributed, federated social network across connected pods
  • Create an account on an open server or run your own pod
  • Privacy-aware sharing with control over your own data
  • Connect and interact across the wider federated network
