About Audacity
Audacity is an easy-to-use, multi-track audio editor and recorder for Windows, macOS, and GNU/Linux. It lets you capture sound, edit clips across multiple tracks, and assemble finished audio on your own computer.
You can record from your microphone or system inputs, cut and arrange material on a multi-track timeline, and work entirely offline without depending on a hosted service.
Audacity is free and open-source, licensed under GPLv3 with most code files GPLv2-or-later. A new Audacity 4 with a redesigned interface is in active development, while the 3.x line remains available.
