About Apache Ozone

Apache Ozone is a distributed object store for Hadoop and cloud-native environments. It scales to tens of billions of objects and blocks of varying sizes and serves data analytics and object store workloads.

Ozone exposes data through both the S3 API and the Hadoop File System API, so the same store works with S3 tooling and with Hadoop, Spark, and similar engines. It uses the Raft protocol for strong consistency, replicates data for high availability across multiple failures, and runs in containerized environments such as Kubernetes and YARN.

Security is built on Kerberos authentication, native ACLs, Apache Ranger access control, transparent data encryption, and on-wire encryption. Ozone is a top-level Apache Software Foundation project under the Apache 2.0 license.

Key features

  • S3 and Hadoop File System API support
  • Strong consistency with RAFT
  • Designed for Kubernetes and YARN environments
  • Kerberos, ACLs, Ranger, TDE, and on-wire encryption
